New Art Rave board elected at the AGM

Alberni Art Rave Society has a new board, elected October 7th at the AGM.  The meeting was an exciting exchange of fresh ideas for the direction Art Rave will take in 2015. As plans develop, we will post them on Facebook and on our website.

A series of members’ socials is planned offering members a fun way to meet, be involved and share their ideas and input for 2015.  The board members now are:

  • Lily Diotte – Secretary
  • Robert Gunn – Treasurer
  • Jillian Mayne – Communications
  • Barry Bruyere – Member at large
  • Youlande Fournier – Member at large

Annual General Meeting

Annual General Meeting
will be held

Tuesday October 7th, 7pm

at The Scout Hall
4th and Montrose, Port Alberni

We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your fresh ideas for the year ahead.

Elections will also be held for positions on the Society’s Board of Directors. Any member with an interest is being part of the planning and direction for Art Rave 2015 are encouraged to put their name forward.

A further reminder that membership fee are now due. The cost is $10 and fees may be paid and new membership cards will be issued at this meeting.

If you are unable to attend the October 7th meeting and are interested in being considered for a position on the Board, please let us know prior to the meeting so your name can be considered.

The People’s Choice Winner : Katharina Zalatnai

Peoples Choice. Artist-

Fairy Morning by Katharina Zalatnai

The People’s Choice Winner in the Juried Art show 2014 was Katharina Zalatnai of Courtenay, BC. with her wonderful painting “Fairy Morning”.
Katharina Eva Zalatnai is a professional artist with a long list of achievements behind her. She studied art in Hungary, Italy, France and Canada and has a degree in Art History and Archaeology.
Katharina has had many exhibitions internationally and locally and has worked as a Commercial Artist, Interior Designer and Art Instructor. Katharina has also worked as a Jewellery Designer, A Color stylist for Animation and Prehistoric rock art research. Many of her paintings have found homes in Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada. She now lives in Courtenay on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Game On!

Art Rave crew awake early feverishly preparing for tonight’s Reception and tomorrow’s Festival.
Last night’s AVNews was wrapped in an Art Rave program so you can plan your Rave. Art Rave would like to thank AVNews for their support and acknowledge their outstanding Graphic Design.

Festival Crummy

Making loops every 30 minutes from the Festival site, up Argyle with stops at Rollin Gallery on Saturday. Enjoy a walk in the garden where 8 local artists and First Nations carver, Jason Titian, will be displaying their work.
Sunday, the Crummy will carry Festival goers up the hill to Char’s Landing for her Birthday Celebration featuring live music all day.
Regular stops at the Industrial Heritage Building and the Maritime Museum during their operating hours, before returning to the Train Station Festival site.

Artist Demonstration Pavilions

Artists’ Demo Pavilions 
Lower Argyle will be strung with a series of 20X20 ft. pavilions featuring the best of local artists and crafts people displaying their creations and creating right before your eyes.
The Pavilions will be open Aug. 2-3 from 11AM to 6PM and Monday, August 4th from 11-4PM
Artist Demo Pavilions will be situated around the Historic Train Station housing various artists each demonstrating their talents. There’s an opportunity to chat with the artists and learn more about the various artistic processes.

There’s a great evening planned at the Train Station Gallery venue.
The event will be catered with a selection of appies from local restaurants, a Cash Bar and Live Music from Sandy Bouleau, Classical Piano, Cameron Geddes, Classical guitar and Art Rave’s own, Barry Bruyere, Looper / Jazz. Be there or be square. Starts at 7PM.
