100% cotton, in a blue colour, much like the cyan in our logo, and emblazoned with the Art Rave Logo Festival 2014. Cost is $20 and may be picked up at the Old Scout Hall Tuesday, July 15 between 7 & 8 PM. If you’d like a T-shirt and can’t attend, please call Jill at 250-720-2101.

Artists Demonstration Pavilions will be set up along lower Argyle. Art For All Ages Workshops and Demo Pavilion hours are Saturday and Sunday 11-6, Monday 11-4

Sound Stage: A variety of local musicians and performance artists expected throughout the weekend. Headliner group, The New Groovement plays Saturday, August 3 at 8:30 PM
Tickets are now on sale for Art Rave’s Juried Show Reception.
The Reception will be held in the Alberni Train Station Gallery space on August 1st from 7PM to 11PM.
It’s a catered event with a cash bar and live music and makes an enjoyable opportunity to view the art, all of which is for sale.
Last year’s event was well-attended and a sold out event so don’t delay.
Tickets may be purchased at Gayle’s Fashions , both Jenny’s Fine Foods Locations, Kismet Quilts, Main Artery and Jowsey’s Furniture.
A very special Art Rave Treat…
Monday, July 28th at 7.30 pm in the Train Station, Art Rave presents Chuuchkamalthnii Ron Hamilton. Admission is free.
Ron Hamilton will present his entertaining and informative talk on Nuu chah nulth dance curtains.
So far Ron has painted over 50 curtains of many sizes and in some variety of styles. These have been prepared for families on the coast, and each required a great deal of discussion and research into images, stories and songs that go with a curtain.
They’re 100% cotton in the blue that’s close to the Cyan in our logo and are emblazoned with our logo & Festival 2014.
So, the i’s are dotted on the contract and Art Rave is happy to announce… Drum Roll please…

The New Groovement, sure to create a festive atmosphere, this 11 piece Funk / Rap band based in Victoria just gets people on their feet dancing with their great energy and original sound . Lots of planning and groundwork now underway for Art Rave 2014. Here are a few things to note on your June calendar.
Art Rave is entering a float in the July 1st, Canada Day Parade. It seems a great way to introduce ourselves to the community, promote our event and have some fun.
The Heritage Society is loaning us a 30′ flatbed trailer and truck that will need decorating so some work parties planned.
June 21st – Work Party to make float decorations. 1-4 PM at the Old Scout Hall, 4th & Montrose
Supplies provided, but bring along your ideas and props etc. Keep in mind the Art Rave colours are red, yellow and blue.
June 29 – Work Party to decorate the float. 1-4 PM at the
Industrial Heritage Society building in the Curling Rink building.
July 1 – Parade Day – if you’d like to be in the parade, please contact Linda @ 250-723-7158. Props & costume ideas encouraged.
*We will also need some help from members to remove decorations from the float after the parade.
But all work and no play, make for a dull Art Rave so…

We are encouraging all artists to step up to the challenge and contribute to a wonderful show. July 26 – Aug 4
Alberni Art Rave is again presenting an opportunity for Vancouver Island and coastal BC artists to showcase their work. This year’s 11 day show is again to be held in Alberni’s historic Train Station near the Harbour. The show will launch with a Reception on Aug. 1st. The evening will be open to artists, sponsors, dignitaries and the public who purchase tickets. The event is catered with an open bar and musicians on site to set the mood. Last year’s event was very successful and a sold out event so be sure and purchase your tickets early. The cost is $25 and tickets are available from both locations of Jenny’s Fine Foods, Kingsway & Argyle & the Tourist Information Centre and from Swale Rock Restaurant, Argyle Avenue.

All work/projects should be for sale (Art Rave commission 20%), there are no size restrictions and projects in any medium will be considered.

This year’s show revolves around Henry David Thoreau’s quotation “What would human life be without forests, those natural cities” We intend that Thoreau’s quotation will be a unifying theme for the show. We hope for thought provoking, well made art and a show that has a voice of its own.
The process
Artists are asked to consider the above statement and design a project/ art piece that depicts their creative reaction to the quote.
Your submission to the jury should contain a brief written description (up to 200 words) of your idea and what your final artwork might consist of, along with recent examples of your work. (A web page or at least 5 photos). Your acceptance will be based upon the above requirements.
Selection and key dates
We need to receive your proposal before mid day May 31st, 2014, at alberniartrave2014@gmail.com or at 5115 Gordon Ave, Port Alberni BC V9Y 6T5, so selection can be decided over the next 4 days, in order that selected artists have time to complete the chosen project by delivery date. Selection will be based upon how you have embraced the quotation and how you intend to implement the idea in an artwork. We will send out successful Artist notifications on 2nd May by email or Canada Post if submission was mailed to us.
Important dates: Finished works will need to be delivered to Port Alberni on July 23 and unsold pieces picked up in Port Alberni on August 5.
