Art Rave is delighted to announce that ADSS student work will be included as part of the group show on display at Art Rave’s “Spotlight On Art” Show at the Capitol Theatre June 20th to 26th.
Gallery hours 10.30 to 5, 20th to 26th June., Capitol Theatre.
There will be a gallery reception Friday, June 19th from 7-11PM. Tickets are on sale at Swale Rock Café, Gayle’s, Rollin Gallery, Char’s Landing. Music, Art, cash bar and appetizers from some of Port Alberni’s best restaurants

Group Art Show “Spotlight on Art” runs from June 19 to the 26th in the Capital Theatre, on Argyle in the heart of Port Alberni’s Arts District.

Running All Weekend…

• Art for All Ages Tent .
• Carving Tent offering demos both Saturday and Sunday including Chain Saw Carver, Jesse Toso.
• Art Demo tent offering Life Drawing, Still Life demos. The public is encouraged to try their hand.
• There will be an Art Market with a selection of local and mid-Island artists and artisans displaying and selling their creations.

Saturday, June 20th Saturday Stage sets up in Spirit Square at 1PM

• A variety of local musicians and Spoken Word artists will perform from 1-11 pm.
• Evening Dance Concert starts and 8 pm and features Cruise Control and Mystic Groove.
• Beer Garden will be set up in with Spirit Square, operated by Port Alberni’s Young Professionals.
• Open Saturday from 1 to11pm, serving a selection of wine and craft beers.

Sunday, June 21st from 12- 4pm

• This is Father’s Day so we are planning Family events.
• Projects for dad and kids at the Arts for All Ages Tent.
• On-going Art Demos all afternoon.
• Demos throughout the afternoon by the Chain Saw Carver, Jesse Toso.
• Capture your memories of the day with Art Rave’s Photo Booth. Dress up with an interesting variety of costumes and props kindly loaned to Art Rave by Portal Players. The photo booth is by donation.
• Spirit Square is the site of the regular Sunday Craft market, so on Sunday, Art Rave will use the Performance Stage at the rear of the Spirit Square building adjacent to the playground.
• Local musicians and Spoken Word artists will be performing throughout the afternoon.
• Special Sunday afternoon performances… kick up your heels to Port Alberni’s own marimba band the joyful, Marim-Bam-Buzz.
• 1:30 PM, Art Matters performance of “Buckeroo Bob”, a funny and entertaining recreation of an old time radio play.”
  Even if you don’t remember the ‘good old days’ when the family gathered around the radio on a summer’s evening to listen to The Shadow and other serial radio plays you will enjoy Sunday’s production of Buckeraroo Bob on the Lone Prairie, written and directed by Gwynne Hunt.  The concept is simple, the times were simple. The audience watch a 1940’s cast arrive for work and present a special family friendly radio play. Buckeroo Bob and his trusty sidekick Seamus save a damsel (or two) in distress and rescue one more dusty town from demise.  It was an exciting time in radio. With the first world war over, nobody was rationing food anymore and Monsanto had a lot of ‘instant’ food’ to offer.  The radio play with commercial breaks is in reality a one-act play complete with laughter, drama and ‘dum, dum, dum’ more twists and turns then a slippery snake up in the yonder hills. Working with a foley artists, the sound effects are their own mini-production.

Group Art Show “Spotlight on Art” runs from June 19 to the 26th in the Capital Theatre, on Argyle in the heart of Port Alberni’s Arts District. The Gallery space will be open each day from 10:30 to 5PM.
The show includes the work of several local and mid-island artists working in a variety of 2 and 3D media.  Students from ADSS provided an exceptional  exhibit this year

Jill and her helpers have been busy. They sent news out to:

Island Arts offered us editorial space in their May issue on-line and in print, so they’ll run an article with photos

We do monthly community Shaw promos that run on channel 4, chatting up Art Rave, the social, and the need for volunteers for the Festival.

We post monthly poster and email mail-out re: the social.
Art Link magazine has had ads and articles in the last 2 issues and one more due for June.

We use radio and all possible free on-line promo for our socials ie:

• alberni.ca,
• Harbour Living

Carolyn Ness has articles pending for both local papers.

Working on getting all confirmed info into media docs.

Posters up at VIU & ADSS looking for young artists and volunteers.

We’re working on

• the Festival poster
• a banner for Rogers Street at Mill,
• the festival site
• meetings with all and sundry in that regard
• Kid’s Art Workshops at Rollin on June 6th to make site enhancement banners for the festival.
• Supplies, plans, prep and promo stuff
• Festival Volunteer schedule/matrix on which to base planning
• Group Show site organized and prepped.
• Entertainment/Beer Garden.
• Banners.

If you attended Art Rave’s January Social and took part in Cheryl Iwanowsky’s workshop, don’t miss Art Rave’s March 25th Social.
Again, besides donated her time, talent AND the clay, Cheryl was kind enough to fire all your pieces and will be bringing them to the Social and offering a Glazing workshop.
Cheryl is donating all materials and will re-fire your glazed piece to give you a finished piece.
